Simply use a rubber mallet to gently seat the back into the base and attach with provided hardware.As far as comfort goes, these are easily the most comfortable dining chairs I've ever used. Having grown up using hardwood or molded hard plastic dining chairs in schools and institutions, the cushion and slight spring these chairs have is a blessing.YMMV but I think these are a steal for $60 a piece.A decent overall chair.
